Frequently Asked Questions

What Support Services Are Included in Hospice?

Hospice care addresses more than just physical symptoms. In addition to medical care and pain management, hospice provides emotional support, spiritual care, social work services, caregiver education, volunteer support, and bereavement counseling. Our goal is to support both patients and their families throughout the hospice journey.

How Often Will Hospice Staff Visit My Home?

The frequency of visits depends on each patient’s individual needs and care plan. Hospice nurses, aides, social workers, chaplains, and other team members visit as needed to provide care and support. As a patient’s condition changes, visit schedules can be adjusted to ensure they receive the appropriate level of care.

Can I Receive Hospice Care While Still Pursuing Treatment?

Hospice care focuses on comfort, symptom management, and quality of life rather than curative treatment. In most cases, patients must discontinue curative treatments related to their terminal diagnosis in order to receive hospice benefits. However, patients may continue receiving medications, therapies, and other supportive treatments that help manage symptoms, reduce pain, maintain comfort, or improve quality of life. Our team can help you understand your options and determine the most appropriate plan of care for your individual situation.

What Supplies and Equipment Does Hospice Provide?

Hospice typically provides medications related to the hospice diagnosis and can coordinate the delivery of medical equipment and supplies needed to support comfort and care. Depending on a patient’s needs, this may include items such as hospital beds, wheelchairs, oxygen equipment, walkers, bedside commodes, and personal care supplies.

What Happens to Medical Equipment After Hospice Ends?

Medical equipment provided through hospice is generally rented and supplied for the duration of hospice care. If hospice services end, arrangements will be made to pick up the equipment or discuss alternative options based on the patient’s ongoing needs and insurance coverage.

What’s Included in Hospice Bereavement Support?

Bereavement support helps family members and loved ones cope with the loss of someone they care about. Services may include grief counseling, support groups, educational resources, memorial programs, and ongoing outreach from the hospice team. Support is available both before and after a loved one’s passing to help families navigate the grieving process.
